What is IPL Hair reduction?
Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) treatments offer a wide spectrum of multiple wavelengths and light energy, and therefore are able to target and stimulate a number of different skin structures . By using a large spectrum multiple wavelength beam , IPL is able to provide superior permanent hair follicle destruction while at the same time it is possible to treat skin pigmentation, stimulating collagen regeneration and minimizing unsightly blood vessels.
How does IPL work?
When light is absorbed by pigment (melanin) deep in the hair follicle of your skin, it is converted into a thermal heat, which disables the hair in the growing stage of hair growth (called Anagen) . The growing hair will then grow out and fall out. Hairs in the second and third stage of hair growth will come back softer and finer than before.
Subsequent treatments will treat the hairs previously in the second and third stage of hair growth, which is why a series of treatments is required.
Is the treatment safe?
Yes, IPL is extremely safe in the hands of an experienced therapist. The IPL system is able to deliver light energy to the skin in a gentle way and our state of the art equipment have built in cooling components for a much safer, painless treatment. All IPL machines at All Skins Beauty are Australian TGA approved, this the Australian Government law that requires all IPL machines to meet and operate at a certain safety standard.
What do treatments feel like?
Generally, treatments have a very small level of discomfort and the majority of clients would say it is less painful than waxing or electrolysis. Some say it feels like a quick flicking of a rubberband on the skin, and due to each pulse being able to treat around 100 hairs per session, it is a very quick and painless treatment.
Can all hair colours and skin types be treated ?
Our IPL equipment is able to treat the majority of skin types. We use specialised diagnostic equipment to assess your skin type at the time of consultation, therefore specific treatment parameters are safe and effective and tailored to your skin.
As the IPL is attracted to the melanin pigment in the hair follicle, it will work best on brown or black hairs. Blonde or ginger coloured hair will not respond as well to IPL treatment.
Am I suitable for IPL Hair Removal ?
Most people are able to have IPL treatments. Unsuitable candidates are those who are pregnant, breast feeding , or clients wanting removal of blonde, grey or ginger hairs.
Patients who have recently taken Roaccutane for acne need to wait 6 months after finishing their course of treatment to commence laser treatments.
How many treatments will I need ?
How many treatments you will need will be advised at the time of your consultation and is determined by the colour of hairs, the area being treated, and your skin type. Typically a bikini line would need between 4-8 sessions approximately 4 weeks apart and then possible top-up sessions every 8 months to 2 years for any fine ‘scraggly’ hairs you may be left with.
Possible Side Effects
Redness of the skin and mild swelling that can last from one hour to 24 hours. We ask that you refrain from hot showers, swimming/spa pools and excessive exercise for 24 hours and wear SPF30+ sunscreen on the area treated if it is exposed to the sun.
In very rare cases the redness may last up to a few days and there could be some grazing or scabbing which typically subsides over a short period.
At All Skins we believe you should understand how the treatment works and discuss any concerns you may have, so therefore offer a no obligation-complimentary consultation with one of our highly trained IPL technicians to ensure you feel comfortable with your hair removal or skin rejuvenation decision.
